Beautiful riding weather is now upon us Bikers, and as we hit the roads and highways to get in the wind in pursuit of the freedom and happiness bikers crave, i worry knowing that somewhere, in some corner of the country, one of my two wheeled brethren are going to become the victim of a motorcycle accident, and in most cases because the driver that hit them was not paying attention and didn’t see the biker until it was too late.
So how do bikers in general combat that relentless feeling that today may be the day i get ran over by a careless motorists while on the road? There are the obvious answers; being proactive and always on your guard looking for those careless motorists who are not paying attention to the other motorists and motorcyclists sharing the roads with them.
Sometimes accidents just happen, and that is part of life, but when they happen because of a drivers total disregard for human life like a recent deadly accident in Phoenix Arizona, where a sanitation truck plowed through 8 motorcyclists, the only thing that should be done is bringing the full weight of the law down upon that driver and his insurance company to let them know in no uncertain terms that what ever you thought was more important than paying attention while driving is going to cost you big!, and hopeful that despicable drive will not only get some serious jail time, but will also feel it in the only place that seems to get the attention of drivers of his kind, in the wallet!
As sad as that sounds these types of drivers only begin to understand the importance of driving responsibility after they are either thrown in jail, or after they are hit with substantial financial sanctions. I am sure the insurance company of that company truck is not happy, and while they will undoubtedly pay dearly financially, nothing will bring back the victims who were killed in this senseless and tragic accident or relieve the tremendous grieve of the victims families and loved ones!
Don’t let careless and dangerous drivers like this get away without paying for their disregard for human life, a call to your state congressman asking for stricter laws and penalties for drivers who kill motorcyclists is the only way to open the eyes of other drivers.
